Mercan Properties Group is set to inaugurate two new hotels following a total investment of €33.6 million. The new four-star Holiday Inn Beja will open on Monday, August 19, and the three-star Holiday Inn Express Évora is scheduled to open in the second half of September. The projected opening dates for the new hotel units, both under the Holiday Inn brand, were revealed by Mercan Properties Group to the Lusa news agency.

The Holiday Inn Beja, with an investment of €16.8 million, features 95 rooms, a bar, restaurant, outdoor pool, parking lot, and a commercial space with retail shops. “The façade of the Holiday Inn Beja includes a work by renowned artist Vhils that will honor the Alentejo region,” Mercan Properties Group revealed. Details about the artwork will only be presented during the hotel’s inauguration, but murals honoring Alentejo poets Florbela Espanca and Mário Beirão can already be seen on the building’s façade, the group informed Lusa.

Meanwhile, the Holiday Inn Express Évora is “nearing completion.” With a similar investment, this hotel unit will include 76 rooms, an outdoor pool, restaurant, bar, and meeting room, according to the developer. In total, “the two hotels will create 53 jobs in the region, 31 at the Holiday Inn Beja and 22 at the Holiday Inn Express Évora,” in addition to “around one hundred jobs created during the construction phase,” the group added.

“Both hotels emphasize proximity to urban centers and key tourist attractions in the cities,” Mercan Properties highlighted. The Holiday Inn Beja is located near the Castle and the Cathedral of Beja, while the Holiday Inn Express Évora is situated in the Portas de Avis area, close to the city wall and the Roman Temple.

AHM – Ace Hospitality Management, a company belonging to Mercan Properties Group, will be responsible for managing both hotels. Additionally, another four-star hotel unit is under construction in Alentejo, at Costa de Santo André Beach, in the municipality of Santiago do Cacém.
