With a tourist growth 'above the national average,' not only in terms of demand but also supply, the Alentejo region has been breaking records 'year after year.'

Recently, according to José Manuel Santos, the president of the Alentejo and Ribatejo Regional Tourism Entity, four new hotels have opened in the region. Furthermore, according to the latest released data, referring to the month of August, the Alentejo was the region in the country that saw the greatest growth in the domestic market. 'In terms of consolidated demand, combining both internal and external demand, we were the second-fastest-growing destination,' he reveals.

'In the first eight months of the year, we are growing above the national average. There is a general slowdown across the country, even with some slowdown in international demand, but I still believe the Alentejo will continue on this very positive path,' says José Manuel Santos.

Évora remains the main tourist attraction in the region. The goal of the Regional Tourism Entity is to balance the distribution of those visiting Alentejo, which is currently concentrated in about ten municipalities. To achieve this, he states that, on the one hand, 'more tourist accommodations need to appear in less robust areas,' and on the other hand, 'we must try to bring tourists to more inland areas where there is accommodation but not as much tourist flow.
