The online magazine Red just nominated Porto and Lisbon as two os the most romantic cities in Europe for small breaks in 2026.

As for Lisbon, the publication highlights Portugal's capital city for its world-famous pastéis de nata, mentioning that Lisbon has a lot more to offer besides sweet treats. With its colourful buildings, excellent museums, friendly locals, and thriving creative scene, it's undoubtedly one of the most charming places to visit in Europe. It's also the second-oldest city in the continent, with a fascinating and complex history to match. Little wonder, then, that Lisbon has become a go-to for romantically-minded couples.

And where should you stay? In the vibrant and decidedly unpretentious Moxy Alfragide Lisboa, of course! A hotel outside the hustle and bustle of the city center, with great accessibility. It offers an indoor swimming pool and a gym, so you can relax after exploring the city.

What about Porto?

If you've visited Lisbon but can't quite get enough of the enchanting Portuguese way of life, consider Porto for your next romantic getaway. It's the second-largest city in the country, meaning it's always buzzing with activity and excitement, but it feels all the more authentic without the tourist crowds. Even better, it's super walkable, famous for its wine, and located between sea and mountains, so there's something for everyone.

The Renaissance Porto Lapa Hotel is conveniently located right in the heart of the city, overlooking the lavish gardens of Lapa Urban Park and boasting city views and an outdoor pool to boot. The aesthetic is decidedly modern, with sleek interiors and minimalist furnishings, while there's also an on-site restaurant that's perfect for romantic dinners trying traditional dishes with an experimental twist.
